Meet Our Master Distiller
Hans Kringler Opsahl has dedicated his life to the art of distilling. Educated at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh — one of the world's leading institutions for brewing and distilling — he went on to hone his craft at the prestigious Sipsmith gin distillery in London.
Drawn back to Norway and the farm he grew up on, Hans followed his passion for handcrafted spirits made from local ingredients. In 2024, he opened Kringler Farm Distillery in Maura — bringing world-class distilling expertise back to Norwegian soil.
Hans has a rare ability to find just the right balance of flavours. His conviction is simple: the finest spirits start with the finest ingredients — from the barley grown in our fields to the botanicals foraged from the surrounding landscape.
Behind every bottle is a team that spans the entire production chain — from the farmers who grow our ingredients to the distillers who bring them to life. We are united by a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for the traditions of our trade.
OUR STORY
Our Story
Kringler Farm Distillery opened in 2024 at Kringler Gjestegård in Maura, Norway — a working farm with a long history and a deep connection to the land. Our passion for creating unique and authentic spirits grew from a simple belief: the finest spirits start where the finest ingredients grow.
Everything we make is rooted in the farm itself. Hans's father grows the barley on the Kringler fields — the same barley we malt and use in our whiskey. His mother tends the herbs and botanicals that give our gin its distinctive character. And the water we use? It comes straight from our own private water source on the farm, as pure and local as it gets.
We combine traditional distillation methods with modern equipment to produce gin and whiskey with a genuine, rustic flavour — spirits that carry the taste of Norwegian soil in every sip.
For us, this is more than a distillery. It is a family story, told one bottle at a time.
